any tips on clutch hydraulics?

i am about to put new master and slave cylinders in w/ a steel braided hose

any tips?

NA or TII? Not that it makes a difference, it's just that you can...

1) If TII, Take the TMIC off, makes things so much easier.
2) Try draining what you can from the slave through the bleeder valve.
3) Put something underneeth to catch any spillage.
4) Make sure not to spill any brake fluid on any hoses or paint. If you do wipe it up imediately.

a personal experience recomendation:

If you spill brake fluid over the paint DON'T WIPE IT or you will damage the paint. Inmediatly flush it with clean water. And If you wanna, then dry it.

When I always work with brake fluid I have a gallon of water and clean rags laying around in case of a spill.

Brake fluid always cut with water. If you let the fluid over the paint or bare metal for long time, the paint will damage and the metal will start to rust.

It also helps to pre-bleed the brake master on the workbench before you install it in the car, although not necessary. It will keep you from having to engage and disengage the brake pedal a bunch times to build up pedal pressure.

I normally stuff some old rags under the master during the install in addition to keeping some water nearby.

Also, once the master is completely bled, make sure you set the pedal freeplay. I do not have the FSM available, but I think the acceptable freeplay is 1/2 to 1.

Freeplay can be adjusted with the threaded rod on the clutch pedal assy.

Improper adjustment can lead to premature throwout bearing failure.
