i have 2.5 dynomax duals w/ a 2.5 highflow cat, the backpressure is nice, and lod when you get on it, but what you gain in higher rpm you lose a little in the low.....

It's perfect.
If you really start going nuts with the mods, like a street port, etc, 3" isn't overkill either!!
I have a 2 1/2" straight pipe.. going into dual 2 1/4" pipes.
A little off topic rant.. ahem:
Your catback, if it's dual, never needs to be more than 2 1/4 inch, since header runners are only 2" anyways, and they are at the hottest (most expanded air) and highest velocity point in the exhaust...
Going larger than that will only hurt power, since it won't maintain exhaust pulse velocity which is key to the scavengine effect that makes power!! The air is much cooler as it approaches the end of the pipe too, which means its more condensed as well, requiring smaller volume.
Since you are going single.... this is pointless... but I'm bored.
