Any feedback on this eBay short shifter

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-97...=p4506.c0.m245

I tried searching and came up with a few threads about people using a Miata short throw shifter found on ebay. But the ebay links were all dead so I couldn't tell whether they were talking about this shifter or a different one. I question the shifter because of the price but if theres anyone here that has actually bought and installed one of these I'd like to know what you're results were. Was it worth it and did it bolt right in without any modifications to the shifter? I wouldn't mind picking it up if not much has to be done to install.

Trust me, If I had the money I'd for sure get a C's short throw shifter but I don't.

$200 dollars ain't too bad, but I guess compared to the eBay shifters price it does. I'm all for paying that amount for a great shifter but if the eBay shifter comes close in quality and finish then I'd rather have that extra $170 in my wallet then buy a brand named product.

That appears identical to the shifter I got (also from eBay).

The only advice I'd offer is to pay very close attention to the bushing/shifter fit...I spent a few hours using shims (washers from Ace Hardware) to get the ball of the shifter to seat exactly with the retaining ring fully tightened.
I haven't tried a Mazdatrix unit but I'd guess you'd have to do the same thing.

I think you'll also find that any short shifter benefits from a heavy shift ****.
I used a Nismo competition unit but anything with the appropriate thread pattern will work.
Because my **** is taller than the normal version, I ended up machining the upper shaft to lower the installed height. This was easily done on a lathe (once you get through the chrome plating) and resulted in a very stubby shifter.
However, even though the throw is only @2 1/2", it's easily flicked with just wrist action, very positive feeling and doesn't rattle.

When installing any of these, be sure to get all new rubber seals/gaskets and top off the oil in the shifter linkage chamber.

When I got one the plastic piece at the very bottom wouldn't fit it the trans so I had to cut it up, the black plastic guide piece cracks easily and about a week later I found myself putting the stock back in as that one had came out shifting to 1st gear. Maybe just got a bad one. Who knows.

The plastic bush at the bottom is going to be a bit too large but sandpaper quickly gets it down to size.
My pivot bush (black plastic on the pivot ball) is still fine but if you were concerned you could always order a stock Mazda unit.

I've had a miata shifter in my FC for a bit more then 2 years and about 20k miles. I think it's a great short shifter for the price. It tends to be a bit 'notchy' fealing compaired to some of the more premium brands. Then again, you're also paying about 6 times the price.
With a little work the miata shifters can be made to work pretty well. Sometimes you need to shave down the lower bushing provided, so it fits into the FC shifter linkage properly. I also spent about 45 minutes trying different spacer combinations to keep it from binding up. Just remember to get new shifter bushings when installing. It makes all the difference.

The black plastic guide at the bottom of mine has worn, so the shifter has a touch of twist movement, but hasn't broken.
As mentioned above, these miata shifters definitly benifit from having a weighted shift **** on them. It really helps smooth out a bunch of the 'notchy-ness'. I'm using an Rx-8 **** with a little extra weight added and it is a noticable difference compaired to the origional s5 ****.
