Why would you take your car to a mechanic if you don't trust his expertise?
Yes, a bad intake gasket can produce the symptoms you describe, but your guy has actually laid eyes on it so he'd be the one to ask.

If you're going to second guess him on a forum, I'd look for someone I had more confidence in.

Check motor and transmission mounts. Two of the transmission mount rubbers will sag over time and cause a third to break allowing the vibrations to be transfered to the chasis. I had to change mine and all this nasty vibration went away. This may not be your case. I would think that a leaky gasket would make your idle wig out.

I didn't mean to be cranky it's just that I hate to be second guessed about my work and I also think that having seen and heard your car, the mechanic would know.
Hopefully.

Now watch, this tech will be a totally incompetent ******** and your car will run worse and then I'll just feel terrible...

PM Karack, he has a shop in yuba, hes awesome.

the only mechanics i ever use are the ones where they're word is gold. If you are unsure of your mechanic, you need a better one. Thats why i say just go to Karack, he knows whats up!
