Another white smoke story

Just purchased a 88 GXL in good condition with little work needed. Car drives great, but... when started cold, which can be slow, there is white smoke from the exhaust. Smells like gas??? It also sputters very slightly and quickly. However, once warm, no smoke and the car runs perfectly. I was told rthat 1 of the cat's was replaced, but was though that the others may also. There has also been a time that it won't start until it sits for a while - flooded? Can anyone lend an idea? Thank you

Sounds normal for cold weather.... If it smelled like oil or sweet like coolant, I'd be worried... but if there's just about a minute or two.... longer when colder.. no prob....

The starting after sitting for a while thing.... RX-7's have a pretty common flooding issue.. They run REALLY rich when you first start them, so you have to let that stuff burn off before you turn them off.. So if you start them, back out of your driveway, and park and turn it off..... thats probably not enough time.. you should let it idle for a while before turning it off. Letting it sit for a while is the best thing to do though... (if that happens)... Other solutions like the ATF fix or what not can actually damage your engine.

Please... PLEASE read the FAQ in the 2nd gen section. There's a sticky thread a couple down from the top that you need to read.
