another TPS questions!!! sorry

yes i did a search alot of them just have sites and i swear ever site for doing it the meter way was down so can someone please help me.... a little explaination on how to would be great. its an 87 na.
ok i'm trying to do it the meter way cause it seems the safest way. so i go get gas come back and try to test it. i put the positive in the bottom of the green connector and the negitive on one of the other 2 connectors and it gave me a really low number so i dunno if i was doing it right or not. i have the meter at DCV 20.

You're measuring voltage.&nbsp Voltage ranges around 1VDC at rest.

thanks for replying but i'm a little lost. i know the tps works cause the rpm's move whenever i press the button. so i'm suppose to unplug it make sure its getting 1 volt at idle. and if it isnt adjust the screw to the right of it. sorry reted i'm a moron on this tps thing. what should the meter be set at to read?

No you don't unplug it. Just jam the probe for the meter into the harness that the TPS plugs into. Should be 3 lines. 5V pwer, ground, and data line. The data line is the one that varies in voltage if you play around with the TPS.

You lost me as well. You're unplugging the TPS and measuring the TPS *voltage*?&nbsp That's going to register "0". Try changing the DMM to read resistance (Greek letter "omega") &#937.

If you're reading resistance, then no need for the car to be on.&nbsp If the car is stock (i.e. stick stock throttle body), the engine NEEDS to be full hot to do this correctly; what you're doing is disabling the cold start cam on the TB so you're reading the right specs...

could the TPS be my hesitation problem i've been having lately. it happened again today it only happens whenever i punch it. if i go slow it doesnt do it. i was going like 80 and a civic got behind me so u know had to downshift to show him what i got. then we ran into the light from the exit we both got off on and when i started to accererate i go through first get to about 5200 rpms and car starts to jerk change to 2nd and i'm trying to hurry up cause i have to cross all the way over and it did it again. it blew smoke 2.. so i dunno whats going on. if it was running to rich could that be the smoke.

Check WOT values of the TPS, if it's over 6.0k, it's suspect...
This will cause high RPM hesitations...

Yes. I had an experience like that. No smoke though. Lots of jerkiness.
