Another reason your 6th ports might not be working!

I removed my intake this weekend to do some major renovations and I noticed one of my actuators was not reacting quicky and would not extend all of the way up. Well when I got the lower manifold off I ran a dirrect line to the actuator in question and it was still sluggish. Then it dawned on me that the arm running through the lower manifold was probably gummed up. So I removed the actuators from the manifold and pulled out the rods. Well the rods were very hard to get out due to the carbon build up on the other side, so after some lubricant they came out and I cleaned them up real good. They then slid back in very easily and now both actuators move with half the effort. So if your do not work right; try cleaning the rods.

NOPE! The 5th and 6th ports system. I just hear of everyone talking about how thier sleves are all cruddy and wont turn. But many of the stuck aux. ports are most likely due to the actual rods being stuck. My 6th ports always worked but never as good as they do now. And when you boost the power with an exhaust and intake you will be running through the rpm range a bit faster so the actuators need to respond as fast as posible to open up when needed and get closed fast enough to provide added torque for the low rpms on the shift. I'm guessing that my slow acting actuator was not closing fast enough and probably just staying open the whole time once opened. If you have the lower intake off; I suggest taking the actuators off and pulling out the rods and giving them a good cleaning. There is only 3 10mm nuts and 1 phillips head screw on each actuator. You need to soak them first in some penetrating oil to loosen up that screw.

Samps- Is that something that can be done with the manifold on?? My front actuator is quite sluggish and I am waiting to find the time to pull it all appart.

It is possible to remove the actuator and rod while on the car. BUT! you will have a hell of a time getting the rods to line up with the lil pin on the sleeves when you reinsert them. I guess it could be done; but very tricky. If there was some way to tell whether you got it right or not then I would suggest doing it that way; but without a fool proof way to tell if you lined it back up properaly; I'd say take the manifold off and do it right.

Too bad. I was hoping I could do a quick fix. Plan to pull the whole intake off this fall and get injectors cleaned etc. Have to do it then.

Did you REALLY notice any difference with the ported manifold? Can you compare it to another mod?

Thanks,

Elio

NOPE! T2s do not have the 6th ports system.

and

NOPE! Did not notice any real gains in the porting. I did not port as much as some of the other guys did; so that may effect the results. But I had the manifold off one day and figured "what the hell!"
