Question Another newb

So im sure you guys are sick of the newbs's not reading all the tech stuff before asking a question, but i did.

So bought a 1987 Rx-7 its a work in progress. I know its a time bomb and that i should rebuild it. I'm a little strapped for cash and i just got two new jobs. So im planing on doing it.

I bought the car for 100 bucks. Guy didn't know what he had. Origanially he said it was sitting for the last 4yrs. So i replaced the battery and the fuel pump. Then pulled the EGM fuse and tried starting it for thirty seconds with it floored. then put it back in and tried it. It started up about ten minutes later.

When i got it home i found that it was sitting for the last ten years. So i changed the oil, spark plugs and ran lucas injector cleaner with a tank of premium.

The problem is it has problems starting. The starter sounds like a new starter. The battery has a charge of 12.467 I know the car was a 100bucks but there must be some reason. I runs really rich. But only starts if im admint for about 20 minutes and flooring it helps a lot.

Thank you for reading and giving me feed back

- don't run premium in a n/a fc its just a waste of money.

87 octane or lower would be best.. n/a FC's run naturally rich.

-battery new
- starter new?? only one way to find out is to pull it out and get it tested at autozone or kragen or your local parts store out in where you live.
- do the same with the alternator.

i would say the tps but knock these out first. then at least you'll know your charging system , battery and starter are good.

when do u try to start the car in the morning , noon , evening ? it could be your tps is out of spec and needs to be adjust or you just have carbon build up that prevents your motor from starting... HOPE NOT!!

you'll have to do a full-tune up in my perspective

check the FAQ section

welcome aboard the rotary boat treat it well and it will do u the same.
