aluminum hood latch and hinges
How long does it take before the aluminum hood corrodes with steel hood hinges? I am in need of these aluminum hood hinges and hood latch, so if anyone has some please let me know: johnsh04@earthlink.net

I can't tell you how long.
There are things you can do to make it least longer.
There are corrosion inhibitor liquids you can coat it with before you bolt it together. (NOT WD-40 type of sprays) For some reason all the brands I have seen are blue in color, and they work!
Like $4 for a 6oz. bottle.
I was in a good mood so I just went out to my shop and looked at my bottle. It says CORROSION-X
with a toll free number 800-638-7361

If you could I would appreciate it! My car is sitting with primer until I can get these aluminum hinges and latch. Thanks again, I was going to check out the junkyard during lunch ...looking at the part fiche it looks like they used the same aluminum hinges on the convertible rx7s , not 100% positive though.

more importantly....
he other main and more important reason that you want the latch is because the weights of the hoods are diferent and the latch was designed for the weight of its respective hood. It will damage the catch on the al hood if you use the steel latch. Alaso the spring tension rate is different. So be sure to get a new hood catch.

Thanks for the info, I just got back from the junkyard and noticed that some of the 1986 rx7s have aluminum hoods but dont have the aluminum hinges. I put a magnet up to the hinges to test it and the hinges were magnetic, so I assume they are steel, I found 3 aluminum hoods there-I am assuming they were aluminum since the hoods were so light (non Turbo), I got a price from the dealership for the cost of aluminum hinges and a latch...$50 per hinge and $120 or so for the hood latch wow :o
