Aluminum hood?

I notcied that the hood on my 87 TII is much lighter than the hood on my 87 N/A. Its all painted, so how can I tell if its aluminum? Did the 87 TII come with the aluminum hood stock?

IF it feels like it is 20lbs lighter than the other hood, its probably aluminum.

Ahhh...why didn't I think of the magnet? Good idea man! I'll check it tonight. Are these rare, and are they an option on TII's or were they standard?

There doesnt seem to be any particular order when it came to putting aluminum or steel hoods on FCs. Some had them..and some didnt. There are a few models that always came with them, I think the S4 sports and the S5 GTUs's, but other than that, its anyones guess. Im lucky my 88 Turbo2 had one

I dont think my 87' TII has one - it feels the same as my friend's 91' Base - pretty damn heavy.

I think you can also tell by where the latch loop thingy connects to the hood, the aluminum one is riveted on, and steel is welded. I think.

youll notice a huge difference in the weights, the aluminum takes no effort to open, the steel is freakin heavy in comparison. s4's seem to have more aluminum hoods than s5's b/c from what i understand mazda wanted good gas milage ratings on the early ones so they made them as light as possible. kinda funny how older fc's got the better parts ie alum. hood, alum. jack and spare, better lsd, etc.

I was told that all S5's have them and then the only S4s were the 88 GTU.
