OK everybody here's the deal. I bought my 86 GXL a few months ago, when I got it home the battery died, and I replaced it. Then when I hooked up the new battery the 80 amp main fuse kept blowing.

Come to find out the wire from the alternator back to the battery was bad and causing the fuse to blow. I bought some wire and reran the wire and the fuse no longer blows. But I also got a new alternator and tried to put it on today. When I hooked up the battery cables the alternator started smoking, but the fuse didn't blow.

I can't figure this out, I am in desperate need if help, this car is driving me crazy. Thanks in advance.
