alternator/grounding problem?

its an s4 n/a 13b

my car caught on fire a while ago, my battery i mean. i burnt one of my spark plug wires so i replaced the battery and i also replaced the spark plug wires. after that happend i started to notice some starting problems...

i would try to start my car and it would not start, the only way it would start is by compression starting it or jumping it...

a week later i added a ground onto my alternator, my voltages still jumped up and down, but it worked better, (before i was only getting 8-9 volts)

and starting yesterday the problem happend again. when driving normally i never get pass 12 volts, it stays around 9.

when i press my brakes the volts jump down to 8..its a dramatic differance, this is definately a grounding problem... or alternator not too sure..

any advice?

Just take it too auto zone or checkers or whatever. They will test your electrical system for free.

your battery caught fire??? how did your battery catch on fire???

it is possible you fried the alternator when the battery shorted out... and or any part of the electrical system... I would start with an alternator test
