Alternator dying? Flickering warning lights

I have an FD alt and lately my warning lights(all of them) have started to flicker randomly or random lengths of time. Usually only a second or two.

It seems to be related to load because at idle the car warning lights do not flicker.

I'm pretty sure it's the ALT and not wiring.

I've checked the voltage and the alt is generating 13.8-14.4 volts
I did notice that the flickering seems to be related to the higher volts as well14.4-14.6v

Anyone have this happen to them? Did you fix it yourself or just get a replacement?

on a 88, the all the idiot lights should only come on with less than 12 volts.

Flickering indicates either a bad CPU or a bad alt.

Now 15+ volts can also cause issues, but it should not effect the idiot lights on a 88, well...other than burning them out.

I may swap the alternator this weekend as a test. I'm almost thinking the alternator reference terminal is going bad causing small outages making the lights come on.

Everything else runs fine so I doubt it's CPU.

Found the issue.

My FD alt refence/dash wire extension got wrapped through the throttle linkage so whenI hit the gas the lever moved it enough to cojtact something.

Zip tied that **** to the side of the alt out of the way so I'm fine

I love easy fixes.

bad ground (earth) in the clock warning panel, or blown diode in the alternator.

I am assuming this is a Turbo without a voltmeter on the dash/gauge cluster.

its a 1991 turbo II so no volt meter, i will try and swap the alternator as i have an FD one, then see what happens.
