almost passed smog!
well after a month of tinkering and spending about 400$ on new cats, i went to a check station for a pretest in good ol california.
i let the tank run to a quarter tank, then added about a gallon of denatured alcohol..
man as soon as i started the car up i knew something was different.. after richening the idle mix to make it not stumble.. man it purred! the exhaust note in the cabin had pure definition.. it sounded like some kind of indy car.. pure rotary bliss.. it was actually sad when i had to put boring regular gas in, but ill get to that later
my hydrocarbons passed on the 25mph roller with 114... barely squeaked by
i failed the 15mph roller with 250 out of an allowed 110 or something
long story short, how can i lower my hydrocarbons? im thinking acv, but im not sure what it is or how to get it off! can anyone link up some pics?
oh by the way my nox levels and co2 levels were less that a quarter what was allowed.. acutally less for the nox.. good news i guess
back to the gas issue... ive been told using the methanol creates the same effect of leaning the fuel mixture?
can i get the same auditory effect with an safc or do i have to spend 10$ a gallon to make my car sound good. for those of you who are shaking your heads at this, trust me, you didnt hear my car screaming around southern california all day. pure heaven. my 3800 rpm hesitation even went away.
can anyone explain why my car sounded so sexy? it was weird.. after i filled up, i started the car, and for about a second it sounded normal, then it just got sooo deeeeeeeep.. man it was almost as good as sex.

make sure the acv is giving port air. the 2 vacuum lines should have vacuum during the test.

Some things to check...
Bust out the FSM and do all the check procedurs for the vacuum hoses. Make sure all that's working.
As far as the ACV is going... in the FSM, they have a diagnosis for it, how to test it.
One thing you could do is "hardwire" the split air pipe straight from the airpump, so the cat is getting a constant supply of air. I'm not sure hot to do that... but one of SonicRat's suggestions...
I hope my GTU can pass inspection

i checked the acv line.. i its the one next to the rear 6th port actuator right? the T line? its got vacuum.
i think my problem is i used too small a cat, its about the size of a precat really.
im gonna change the cat out when i get a chance..
meanwhile.. anyone need a precat? under 100$! its really nice, russ at mesa muffler recommended it for high heat applications. excellent for a precat.

Spanking-new pre-cat for sale? I might.
A view: High hydrocarbons and low oxides is a sign of cold cat or cat not getting enough fresh oxidant (air). Pump air to the main cat, and consider slightly leaning intake.
