alarm problems

don't really know where to ask this since its an aftermarket alarm, but its in an FC so I guess here.

ok. the starter kill switch is going crazy. sometimes its turning on when the alarm is off. it seems to do it more when the car is shut off under unusual curcumstances (like the occaisional [very occaisional] stall; or shutting it off right after revs drop to idle) I usually let it idle for about 10 seconds before shutting it off.

These are the symptoms I have so far. I know how to fix it, its just it seems that it doesn't always work right away. I don't want to hassle with it, but don't want to pay $200 to replace it with a new alarm. its maybe 4 or 5 years old Viper 200 (I think). is it something that can be fixed at a Viper alarm certified place? I didn't get the receipts for it with the car so I bet I'd have to pay for it. but that's ok. as long as its not too much. I wouldn't want to take it out because its giving me power locks and it would sell better with an alarm.

what should I do?

Are you the original owner of the alarm? Then it has a lifetime warranty, from Viper, but you do need the receipt.

Sometimes the alarm brain just locks up on low voltage situations, but with the Viper 200 (which was designed to work in 6 volt cars) you should only run into problems at under 5 volts to the brain.

Have you found the alarm brain yet. Most of the time it will be under the drivers side dash or the glove box on the RX. It is a small black box, about 3 1/5 inches by 3 1/2 inches, by 3/4 inch high.

Once you have found it, try unplugging it, taking a screw driver or something metal and shorting all the pins together on the alarm brain (again while in-plugged). This will reset the brain. Try it then. If you are still having issues try re-grounding the black wire. Often times the installer flubbed up and grounded it poorly.

The red wire at the brain should have 12v+ on it at all times, again if it drops under 5 volts (like you have a couple of bad cells in your cars battery) it will freak out thinking someone is trying to steal the car. The yellow ignition should have 12 volts only when the key is on. There should be a 10 amp fuse on the red wire at the brain. Double check that it is not blown.

If you have a fax, I could fax you out the wiring diagram for the V200, or you can get it off the back of the alarm brain.

If it is the brain, and you can't find the shop that put it in to give you a receipt I have a spare Viper 200 alarm brain and remotes that I could sell you cheap.

hey thanks. I'm not the origonal owner of it. and I don't think the previous owner even is. all I got with it was the manual for it. which I've lost. its around here somewhere. I'll check the brain and what not. the battery is brand new so it better not be that. about hte fax thing, my mom has a fax machine at her office, but i'll have to ask her about that.

All my manuals are at home, won't be until later tonight, or in the morning if you prefer.
