air intake location...???
during my air intake research i talked to a guy in my local club who has a K&N cone filter re-piped close to the fan (he did some minor mods to make it so). his reasoning is: close to the fan, more air flow.
opinions? anybody?
i think its a cool idea...just wanted to get experts into it.
thanks,
Carlos

that's a crock, unless he somehow ducted ALL of the fan's flow into the cone filter...even then, the engine would probably "outsuck" it at high rpms...opinion...

1.3L is not that small
lol did he do this on a rx7? if so i want to see it... but like santiago said you want it BEFORE the rad cause the radiator gets really freakin hot... and the fan cuts off after you start going a certain rpm so that was pointless for the guy to do this... all he is getting is hot air when going fast and really hot air idling and low speeds... put it in the fender (if your daring like me) or buy santiagos kit that puts it BEFORE the radiator

The radiator fan is only for keeping airflow through the radiator at low-speed operation, such as stop & go city driving. At higher speeds, the fan is actually a liability to a certain extent.
Also, as already mentioned, the fan pulls hot air out of the radiator, which is not a good thing for engine performance. Even if this guy's car has his intake ducted so that the fan feeds ambient air into the engine intake, this will not increase performance unless the fan is strong enough to act like a supercharger and compress the air enough to create boost, which is highly unlikely if not impossible.

i looked at his pic he sent me of the engine bay......he snuck the cone just infront of the rad taking out the stock airbox and air duct with it.
my mistake....its not close to the fan, i ment close to(and in front of..) the rad.

It's nice when you can get done driving on an extended trip, pull over pop the hood and feel a nice cold intake manifold.
