air intake

I have a 88TII and want to upgrade the air intake. The K&N cone filter seems the be the popular choice. Will the heat from my turbo adversly affect the air entering the filter? Also where can I get a set up for my car. I have seen dovens of K&N setups on e-bay, but they all say "no-turbo". Will these fit?

what you need to do is the TID mod.

Also, there is this little button in the top right corner that says SEARCH. Try using it for your next question first, as it is probably something that has been covered already.

If you are concerned about hot intake air from a cone filter air intake, then just make yourself some heat shields, air deflectors, or a cold air box. You can find lots of different home-built designs by searching the 2Gen forum for "CAI" (cold air intake), or "cold air box". Here is a ready-made kit:

If you don't want anything that fancy, here are the required basics:

1) An HKS adapter to convert your rectangular 86-88 AFM to accept a round air filter. (The 89-92 cars don't need this because they have a round AFM).

2) A filter with an approximate 2.75" inside diameter. Be sure to measure the dimensions in your car first to make sure that the length and width you want will fit.

3) If you plan on retaining the air pump for emissions, you will also want to get a "crankcase vent filter" for it. If you plan on removing the air pump, then you don't need one. These are available at most generic auto parts stores.

4) Mounting brackets, clamps, or whatever to keep the components from flopping around in the engine bay. I would install everything first, and then decide on how to attach everything to the car.

I would try to keep the AFM more level than that example.
