air flow dynamics question
well,as i am far away from my rex right now,and i do have a nice k&n cone filter laying around[i gotta mess around with some type of vehicle improvement project],i was gonna go ahead and make myself a larger diameter intake pipe [using pvc]and adapt the cone filter,to it,in conjunction with a cold air box[i'm in santa barbara, cali.,plenty of surf shops with all kinds of fiberglass around here ].this is all happening to my 89 ford ranger[yes, yes,i know].its my work truck,i did swap in a 4.0 a couple of years back,headers/exhaust/etc.
here is my question.its a bit tight in there, and, the airbox is on the passenger side, but its behind the battery,so its gonna be kinda hard to get cold air to that location, and the larger diameter pvc is gonna be a problem with the coolant return line.so, i was wondering-there is a lot more room on the drivers side, all i would have to do is splice in some wire on the maf to extend them, can i just switch sides?the part i wonder about,is,the intake pipe run is gonna be significantely shorter...will this affect intake air turbulance/velocity/etc. in a negative manner?other then that,i really dont see any reason not to.
any input?
thanks

umm this is a site about the RX-7, do you expect anyone to be able to visualize or even have any idea what your engine bay looks like, ask questions about ummmmmm..... what are they called?????? oh yeah RX-7s

thanks for the input,guys.....
i realice u have no idea what the engine compartment looks like.the only question i was hoping to get some input on,is,will a air intake pipe,of the same diameter, flow any worse if it is shorter-i know it sounds kinda silly, but,i'm sure the air comming through a cone filter is somewhat turbulant,so will a longer length of pipe help to"smooth"things out and get the air velocity up?if so,would i really compromise intake airspeed by shortening it up?pretty basic air flow dynamic question.i'm sure air flows the same in a ford as in a mazda
sorry if i did not make myself clear before,i will keep all future non rx7 questions far from here!jeeshh...

the shorter your intake the better it works, theoretically anyways. turbulence is often a good thing and you can actually buy a piece of plastic to put in some cars to mix up the air before it mixes with the fuel so that you get a better mix
