air blowing out of rubber hose...

ok, so a post about a guys air pump only pumping air thru the split air pipe at certain times reminded me of MY car.

ive got an 88 SE, n/a 5 speed. and when its cold, and its doing its 3k start up... i was under my car for some reason, and noticed AIR blowing out of a rubber hose, about .75" ID. it exits under my front bumper, on the pass side, and comes out at a 90* angle. so it shoots the air towards the drivers side, instead of straight down.

anyone know what the hell this is?

The Air Control Valve (ACV) controls where the air-pump air goes while the engine is running. One of the locations it sends the air through is to the dump tube you are talking about. It is there to simply dump the air-pump air, and acts as a muffler to keep it quiet.
