AHHHH!!!!! My car won't idle anymore!
Ok everbody, this is really confusing me. I own a '86 RX-7 without turbo. For no reason at all, it decided to not want to idle anymore. This is what I did prior to this problem.
I took my car out to CompUSA to get some computer stuff. Its about 30min away on the highway. I was only going between 60 and 80 Mph, nothing extream. The car ran fine all the way there, and all the way back. On the way back I stoped at my brothers. Still car was fine. I came home, shut the car off and went inside for a few hours. I think someone or somthing decided to play a trick on me because between the time I went inside and the time I left again my car broke.
Now I have to constantly keep my foot on the gas pedal when I come to a stop in order to keep the engine running. It just won't idle anymore.
The strange thing is this, the car starts fine, accelerates fine, gets decent gas mileage, runs normal while driving. It just will not stay idling at a stop. When I first start the engine, the motor revs to about 2500 and then drops down again like its suposed to do. It just keeps on going down and down untill it dies.
Please if anyone out there knows a reason why its doing this, please please please help me.
Thanks. TooL_Aenima(Rules)

I was going to suggest the same thing. Check for any vaccum leaks. At least all around the intake. A friend of mine had this problem once. Are you losing any power at all, or it just won't idle. Good luck!

Hey, I just started having the EXACT same problem last night! Same symptoms and everything. The only thing I did was accidentally broke the O2 sensor wire in half. I then hooked it back up and suddenly it ran like crap! That is the only thing I messed with before it started doing that. Could it be a bad connection in that O2 sensor wiring? Would that cause the same symptoms?

All vacume lines look to be in place. Maybe one of the metal lines the the hoses connect to might be rusted through? They looked kind of corroded. Since someone mentioned the TPS that brought up another thought.
I was checking that out, using the two light do-hicky, and found that I could not for the live of me get both lights to light at the same time. Both lights worked, I know this because I revered the wires and the oposite light lit up. Could this maybe be a potential problem with the idle too? If so, could that be a computer problem? **** I hope not.

you know what? my car did the same **** before my stupid *** blew my motor (no realation to the idle, dont worry) and what i did was ******* block off EVERYTHING got rid of ALL my soliniods and pluged up all my vac lines with caps unless they went to other parts of the intake and the one that goes to the "boost sensor". I block off plated everything i could except for the BAC bc i didnt have a way to bypass/block off the coolant line at the time... it STILL idled all funky going from 100-1200 RPMs and back again.. sounded mean though, peaple thought " man, that car is caming hard!"
So, i then took my negative cable off and let it sit for like 45 mins and slaped it back on... solid 750RPMs like a champ.. i was like "what the hell?!", doesnt make sense but whatever. Hope this helps and sorry so long.. oh yeah... like 15 mins after i got my idle solid, i took it out on a test run to see if it'll still hold idle after beating on it..... gay motor blew... I Love My Luck! haha.

Im guna rip the top end of the motor apart tomorrow to check on broken vac line, but you know what, I looked into this BAC thing and found virtualy no info on it. You know what that tells me? Thats probly the problem HAHA. Anyway, that sux you blew you motor man.
Nother quick question, how exactly do you clear the computer? I disconected the battery and let it sit for a bit, but not sure if its cleared or not?
Im guna rip this thing apart tomorrow after work and see what I can find out. Thanks for all the help. Ill come back in a few days to let you all know what I found out or didnt find out.

Hey you know what? I was failing emissions with this car for the past couple of months now and could not figure out why. It was failing from high Hydro Carbons. Beats the hell out me what those are, but someone told me that that could be caused be a vac leak. I wonder if I had a problem before and it just now got really really bad and stoped my car from idling? HMMMMMMM. I wonder. Ill find out soon enough. Thanx again.

Don't think luck had much to do with it *snicker* When he took his bat cable off for 45 mins I'm bettin he hit the brake pedal somewhere in that time frame. If you disconnect the neg bat cable for 30 seconds and then press the brake pedal it resets the ECU.

I left to go to work this moring and it was still ******* up, but when I got within two blocks of my work, the damn thing started working again. Go figure. I think the car was pissed at for some reason or another and then decided to go easy on me and fix it self. Hmmmmm. This car is wacked out.
