Question Aftermarket Turbo options for a 88AE?

I am going to put a new Turbo in my 88AE. I have ported the motor and rebuild everything. I have got all new parts all the way around (inside & out of the motor) . There is nothing wrong with the Turbo on the car now I had it professionally inspected, however it has 136K miles on it. I don't want anything to fail so I am replacing the turbo just for reliability. My questions are;

Can I get a aftermarket Turbo for around $1000? I need to pass visual smog check im in CA.

If I go with a "stock" turbo setup am I better off switching to a S5? what do I need besides the manilfold to do this swap? (IE wiring harness?)

I was thinking about getting my current Turbo rebuilt and modified (will be great for visual smog check) I talked to a company in Colorado they will rebuilt and "modify" my turbo for $590 if my housing is in good shape, $980 if I need the housing also. How does that sound? and what questions should I be asking about the "modifacation"? the company claimed that with the modded turbo it will be good for around 350HP worth of mods... sounds like alot for a $600ish upgrade.

Those are just my thoughts so far ... but I am interested in any opinions on this. The engine will be entirely finished next weekend so I need to get this turbo thing out of the way & ready ASAP.

BTW: the car will have all the normal Mid level Mods. S-AFC, 720 secondaries, full racing beat exhaust W/pre silencer, Cold AIR Intake box, FCD, Etc.

Thanks Alot,
Robert

Compressor upgrade - 350hp is about right for some of the bigger upgrades.

you cant really get aftermarket turbo and everything you would need for $1000
I'd say go w/ the rebuilding/upgrading of the stock one for your situation.
check out the BNR supercars website. link is at top of page. theres a lot of other places that will do it for you too
If you could get ahold of the seriesV turbo only other thing you need is manifold

These guys are very helpful on the phone and have a comprehensive site -
www.majesticturbo.com
I just had mine done there. They do excellent work and I'm not the first to say that about them...
