Aftermarket exhausts...

What kind do you have? Who'd you get it from and how much did you pay for it? Any pictures or sound files?

I'm getting some money in hopefully this week, and getting my straight pipe made as well as gonna be buying an exhaust.

Well i guess ill start... Catback system consisting of an Apexi Dunk universal canister 95mm inlet, 115mm outlet, bought for 80 brand new. 60 bucks for the exhaust piping and install. I am very pleased... takes all the raspyness that the N1 had out and just leaves the pleasant deep tones to flow. -Gabe

3in RB Turbo Back. It came on the car when I bought it for $800. I like to think I bought the exhaust, and got the car free.

since you're N/A i would get a set of headers first. if you already have those, then i would look at the N1 single. Or the RB cat-back. the RP cat-back is pretty good too.

The nose would not bother me much - but would it be best to put a header on even if I have an n/a? I mean, what are the differences of adding or not adding a header when doing a straight pipe (single)?

The header is one of the most restrictive pieces of the stock exhaust sytem. You can get a road race one for less than $200 I believe from Racing Beat.

You'll def get more bang for the buck by gettting a nice header first. Racingbeat has a decent one, I actually saw it on www.modacar.com ?? I think $180 ceramic coated. The first part of the exhaust is very restrictive. So, get a header, then I would see about getting a custom 2 1/2" all the way < 3" I dont care for on a n/a > and either go to one side, or have a Y made and split it back to duals, add nice muffler and tip.

What makes all these mufflers sound that much different or better ?

From what i've seen they all seem to be a very basic/generic desighn(with the exception of Flowmaster's). I know some of the differences are what they're packed with (Fiberglass or Steel whool).

The reason i ask, since i am cheap i have just been thinking of buying some regular old canister style mufflers of ebay for like 60 bux.

i would NOT get a header first. The gains on a header are mild compaired to a cat-removal system. I would say you would only get 5HP off a header with probably 3times the noise/raspy increase. The restrictive part is the small *** mufflers and the CATS. But, to each his (or her) own. Get full exhaust and then header last is what i would say for sure.
