after new dash install, headlight switch keeps burning up?

my buddy has an 86 base rx7 and we took a dash from an 89 gxl, and swapped the wiring from the 86 to the 89 dash, exactly how it came off the original dash, grounded the ground point like it should be, used all the 86 hardware except for the 89 idiot cluster wich plugs right in to the 86 dash harness. so anyway it keeps burning up headlight switches and making the headlight relays under the hood up front click sometimes and now hes saying that wehn he put the newer headlight switch in that he just bought, the actual headlight switch was making noises. wtf? nothing was changed except the dash itself. we took that dash back out a few times to try and see if we pinched a wire or shorted a wire out but nohting. all looks good. he just re did the interior and painted the car and now hes selling but want htis fixed so it will bring more money... thanks any help appreciated

I think you want Icemark or Hailers on this one...

pop the S4 signal switch back in (you'll notice the plugs WILL plug in but S4-S5 are upside down) and the realys under the hood won't squeal.....had that problem on mine, if you wanna see where my problem is at search "no dash lights"

the wiring for the headlights is different between series on the turn signal switch.

If you swapped dashes and turn signal switches you need to re-pin the harness.

Ypu can not just swap harnesses and expect the same switches to work, and visa versa

ahhhh... so the turn signal switch is different?!, bcuae his switch was kinda worn looking so i put the s5 switch in bcuase it looked in better shape. so thats what it is? but the thing is... is does the same thing when we just plug in the headlight switch, meaning... we ONLY plug in the headlight switch and nothing else (turn and wiper switch no pluged in) and weird thing is... when i ONLY plug in my headlight switch in my car withough the turn and wiper switch pluged in, mine works fine. his ***** up either way. as long as his is plugged in, it burns up

two wires are different between s4 and s5 harnesses, as Icemark said, take the new harness and repin it to match the old harness. I did this for my 86 N/A, got the harness from a 90 TII and the switch from a 89 TII, matched the wires, still works.
