I'll bet my short shifter is equally-if not more- smooth than your stock set up.

I prefer the effort of the stock shifter, although I never played with the shims as suggested above. But how much time and money would it have cost the average person to have a bronze bushing machined for them? Bet that would make up the price difference pretty quick.

The mazdatrix kit also includes the innermost boot that is always ripped to shreds and allows exhaust/trans oil smell inside the car. A $31 value, FREE if you call right now! And it has both correct size bushings that the ebay kits seem to be hit or miss on.

Some people like to tinker, some like to buy something that works out of the box.

Ok... I'm just throwing my opinion out there like this thread is for so... Anyway it's a Mazdatrix short throw and I didn't like it... The only thing I did like is how comfortable it was to drive with the shifter at a lower point. I'm back and forth about it, I've had it on and off twice now..

But I prefer a smooth shift over a hard forceful shift any day.
Dunno, when I originally in my short throw I hated it. I drove around for a summer with it and decided to go back to stock. Funny thing though, after I returned to stack I found it to be more annoying then the short throw. So now I have the short throw in and I live with it.
