Question advice on OEM struts

Okay i work at mazda here in socal. My 91 vert has had the original(i think) struts in it. under the car one day i noticed the back have KYB stamped on them. the front have tokico stamped on them. they are all black and extremely used and old looking. So i go to my parts guy and asked him to order me some new ones. he can only order OEM he says, but, they are made by TOKICO. ok....now my question is, are these the same quality as the Tokico blues? they run about the same as them and the are made for the RX7. so what should i do? go with the blues from nopi.com or just go OEM. and why KYB in the back?

For the convertible the OEM struts were a little different than the coupes. Peoples experience with struts on coupes should not be confused in any way with the superior handing verts.

I have personal experience with the Tokico HD (blues as you call them) on an 88 Vert and found the ride to be very much like stock when new, and an excellent replacement. Now mind you on some lighter coupes, these same struts can be harsh, but on a ‘Vert or S5 or 10thAE Turbo (both near the 3000 lb mark) they are just about perfect.

However, I can not recommend the OEM struts, unless you are keeping the car all original for concourse type events in 10 years. The OEM Vert struts, although made by Tokico and KYB OEM divisions are typically worn enough after 20K miles to easily distinguish from the new OEM or even most aftermarket.
