Advice on a buy
Lookin at 91 convertable with 45,000 miles. It has spoilers front and back including the ram air hood. Its very clean and the guy is asking $9500. The price seems high when compared with the blue book which is $6500 private and $5200 tradein. I was thinkin of making him an offer of around $7000 max but theres just one thing......its auto. Is it worth it? Should I even bother with an auto? Its from an older guy and he says everything works including the A/C.
All opinions and info appreciated. Thanks
REcently sold 1984 GSLSE and it was stick.

Do you mean it has the turbo hood when you say it has the ram air hood? I wouldn't dare pay that much for a NA Rx7 vert. Especially auto. Yeah it has low miles, but for that price you could get a different 5speed vert and swap in a low mile turbo engine.

According to edmunds (much more realistic than KBB as they go off of registration sales price) A national average clean 91 RX-7 convertible with mileage adjustment is selling for:
$4900 for trade in
$6000 Private party
$7800 for Dealer retail
Remember a "clean" car is one that is:
.
Typically a Clean car is one sold by a dealer with new or almost new tires, belts, no broken or rips in the plastic or cloth interior, no stains on the carpet, everything there and in good condition.

You guys got me thinkin I should pick up a clean 5-speed and get it a turbo. So the best way to go about this is to find a donor car and take all the turbo gooies? A nieghbor of mine has a turbo2 sitting in his yard that looks like its ready to be junked, if the motor still good I can get that and the turbo rebuilt use the ECU and intake and just go with high performance stuff on all the rest.
What are you guys doing to get the most performance and still pass emissions? If you are passing.

if you do this do not buy that convertible...buy one with a blown motor or weak motor. Sell the N/A motor for cheap...get your 200 or 300 dollars. Buy a turbo II that works and Transfer the engine and and driveline.
Either
A: sell the chasis
B: part out the turbo II and sell parts
C: just buy the engine and tranny and try to do it with help from the forum...but it will be harder

I purchase and 88 vert this spring for $1,400.00. Very nice car that had a couple of minor problems (water pump, oil cooler lines and brake caliper) Has 112K. When it starts getting weak I am going to put in a Turbo. With this forum and a little imagination it really isn't that hard.
