Question advice on '89 Turbo

Hey everyone! New to this forum so just like to say sup?

Well, I am in the for an Turbo RX-7. I have found an '89 that I have been told is in good condition (exterior and interior.) However, it does not have an engine. The establishment that is selling it has a engine from japan that has 30K on it that he will put in. What I am wondering is what should I look out for. I know some obvious things like:

Make sure car was a turbo before
Have it checked at Mazda after engine is put in
Run carfax or something to make sure it has not been totaled.

Any other information would be extreamly helpful. I think I've found the one though! As long as it's as good as he makes it sound I could be the proud owner of a '89 Turbo!!

yeah, i would definately check out the body to see what condition its in. the 89-91 T2's came with side skirts, rear wing, and 16 inch mesh wheels...also, the 89-90 T2's had "TURBOII" written on the side by the front wheels so hopefully he's not scamming you saying its a turbo model.

if he's offering to put in a jspec engine, i'd ask where he got it from...corksport.com? nipponmotors.com? fc3s.org? and make SURE it has good compression. (you could take it to a mazda shop after the install to make sure the compression is up to par).

there are a few things that you missed and the first is
KEEP IT AS FAR AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS POSSIBLE
now with that being said look out for electircal stuff in the nterior. ie wiper switch, logicon(eater controls), anything that requires sodering from the factory. mazda didnt do the best of work with this. uh i ma sure you will bhear alot more form other people.
good luck

I don't know of any other shops in my area other than one dealership I always used to take my miata to. Any suggestions on types of shops or maybe a nation wide chain?

Thanks for the advice so far!!
