Hmm FC or FD well here in redneck ville you dont see much of either. I saw a FD at the movies once and 2 at autox. I find that most FDs usually end up looking the same and always have the same mods. Or is that just me. But the FC you can go NA or turbo. Plus I like the fact that even though I may drive an 80s car kids at my school are still like OMG he has an RX7 he must be rich. The fastest car that a teenager could afford is probably my friends fc and it dont have alot done to it. But hey that just around here.

Although FD handles marginally better than FC due to quicker steering and more precise wishbone suspension , I like streamlined Fc body style and larger car with good storage due to hatch back. FD is small and designed for racing. Still, there are only a few current sports cars that handle better than FC.

I recently test drove a new Mustang in a large parking lot by putting it through several tight turns and maneuvers - I found it much less agile, light imprecise steering and less flexible compared to FC due to heavy weight (3500 curb lbs.), long wheel base, engine not located behind front axle, inferior solid rear axle and suspension.

Only current/new rear-drive or all wheel drive sports cars under 30K that equal or exceed all features of FC are RX8 (no hatch back) and Nissan 350Z (small interior space, heavy and ok handling). Based on following specs (skid path, sallom, braking), FC handling is equal to both RX8 and 350Z.

http://rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq/rx7specs.html

Frankly, for the money, I challenge anyone to find a all-around sports car with following:

Streamlined exterior design
Precise accurate steering
Excellent agile handling
Roomy with hatch
Midship engine placement
50/50 balance
low curb weight
flexible body
high mod ability
efficient interior dash design
Excellent front/rear view
Unsprung aluminum suspension,
Power assisted steering with good road feel
FC NA engine will go over 200K miles with no overhaul - my 1988 FC has 235K miles and pulls strong with low vibration.
Rear wheel steering or SST system
coil ignition

Recently, I had opportunity to buy a clean 1995 FD with rebuilt engine for $7K - I declined offer based on previously stated reasons.

Thanks for catching error - I meant 350Z and rear wheel steering refers to SST hub setup that toes in/out.

FC are perfect if your a large guy lots of leg and elbow room. I get in my brothers FD and its like sitting in a tight leather glove, but there is alot of companies still developing stuff for FD unlike FC's where you don't have as much to chose from unless your going used.

i love fd's but tooooo expensive. the fc was a second choice because i wrecked my fb and couldnt find another one but glad i did. modding fc's is cheaper than modding fd's imo. hey syncro, you should come to broward county if you want to see fd's. as for me, everyone i talk to about my car the first thing they ask is "is it fast?" i wished i could be labeled rich cuz i hav a fc. oh well

I like both, actually, but could'nt afford the FD. Plus, the 80's body style of the FC is killer. (IMO)

I chose my FC over an FD for a few reasons. It was cheaper first off, you can't buy what you can't afford. Second, I am new to rotaries, and still fairly green when it comes to working on cars in general, so I figured the FC is still fuel injected and turbocharged, but still simpler than the FD. Lastly, from what I had researched, it would generally be less expensive to maintain, and less expensive for insurance. Sensing a theme? Money was probably the biggest factor in the decision.

Also, there is something to be said about the looks of the two. I think if I drove a really nice, clean FD, I would be extremely nervous leaving it parked in lots or on the street for any amount of time. I've had much lesser quality, and low-key looking cars stolen from me in the past, the paranoia the FD would induce might be too much for me to handle. Something one might consider if you live in an urban area.

Still, I would trade my FC for an FD in equal condition, any day of the week if it were possible. Those things are just damn sexy.

^ This is true, i wouldnt park an FD anywhere except my own sealed garage. people steal everything here in houston, espically since we got all the refugees. or if i did park it, id make sure i could watch it and have a concealed handgun in case anyone wanted to cause problems.

FC Over FD Any Day

I rather a FC over a FD anyday. I have finally settled with a 88 Vert which is in the restoration process. The FC's are just equiped with more options and there are so many different models. It's an all around great car with very limited parts that are made which gives owners a challenge to each have a unique car. The FD's have so many aftermarket parts to make you sick.

I just wish that someone would just cater to all the needs of the FC.

turbo upgrades are much cheaper when you go hybrid BNR wise. you can make the same amount of hp with less mony
the power fc is very expensive which is only made for the fd
you can get a haltech for half of that.
oh yea and you cant fit subwoofers as big as mine in an fd

but to tell you the truth with all the mony i have spent on my fc plus the cost of the car (10 to 15 grand) i could have bought an fd
i will own one some day

it's rather funny that everyones perception is that modding an FD costs more than an FC, which is untrue...

the only reason that it may be true is because some shops will rape FD owners more than FC owners just because they know that FD owners can afford it more than FC owners but as far as parts are concerned FC parts are as much and in more cases than not more expensive than FD parts with the exception of trim pieces but i am referring to upgrades.

Found some info

The FC is just as good a car as its younger brother, the FD. They have
similar times on most tracks although their characteristics could not be
more different. While the FD depends on stability, predictable
understeer, and acceleration, the FC relies on oversteer and cornering
ability but lacks slightly in brute power. Nevertheless, its oversteer
is quite controllable and its cornering potential is well worth giving
this car a try.

I want to have a classic car in less than 7 more years.

FD cars always need rebuilds thanks to their engine - a lot more than a reasonably controlled FC. You rarely hear of FDs in 150k on engine range.

Some people say the FC is from some anime show?

It was a lot cheaper.

I think I'm going to skip FD (I only like the body really) and get an RX-8 since it's better on oil and gas. That and I can tell my someday wife that I already have a nice family car.

^^ that's funny, if you look at most old magazine articles about the FD (check iluvmyrx7.com) they all talk about how much the FD oversteers. Every 7 I've driven oversteers pretty bad compared to other RWD cars out there... my FC has waaaay more oversteer than my mark III Supra.

I love both cars. I've driven heavily modded examples of each. My N/A definately gives me the most fun with the least stress (worrying about popping motor) and least cost (87 octane, no turbos to replace, etc).

has anyone put a 13bre in there fc. lets trade pics. i think if anyone is an owner of an fd or fc than you will be fixin it up. thats just me. i think all stock cars suck. and the ones that are even close to spec, they are too slow and just a waste of money. you would just be paying for looks. porsche farrari. too slow
