Adjusting clutch freeplay/engagement point - which way to turn the nut?

This isn't a where is it located thread .. I just hate being in the position where my back is getting crushed by the door sill and im half hanging out of the car .... so just wanting to know this as i can get it done as quick as possible.

While on your back looking at the adjustment (the threaded bolt with nut on the top of the pedal). Which way do I want the nut to go in order to LESSEN THE FREEPLAY in the pedal? (Yes I've read the FSM but it doesn't say) .. towards the firewall .. or towards the driver seat ???

You loosen the nut and thread the shaft out of the pedal a little bit and then retighten the nut (simple answer, out.)

Oh, you will need a 10mm and a 12mm wrench.

A hydraulic clutch should not need adjusting, you might want to check for air in the system or a failing master or slave cylinder.

Towards the firewall.

just play with it you'll figure it out once you make an adjustment and depress the pedal. you dont want to over adjust or the clutch will always be engaged.

Air in the line indicates one of two things:
It was run out of oil.
Or it has a failing master or slave cylinder.

If it was run out of oil, where did the oil go? (Leaking master or slave cylinder.)

Either way, I would start looking for a replacement so that you aren't broken down somewhere.

(FYI: This happened to me, I aquired a spare when the pedal first started acting funny and it failed about 3 weeks later.)
