adding a turbo to a N/A

I have a 87 N/A automatic that I want to switch to manual and turbo charge. Someone offered to rebuild and turbo charge the existing engine with a turbo from a AWD Eagle Talon. The price he quoted me is far below anything I have heard for a TII engine swap. Would this work or will I be wasting my money?

Well, installing the pedals is a bitch or two, i ended up having to remove my entire steering column to install the clutch pedals. And I believe there were issues about the compression differences on the NA to the Turbo, but I guess that might not be that big of a concern depending upon the setup.

the talon turbo is too small. you won't get much power at all from it. maybe even lose power from the restriction... if he gave you a cheap price he probably doesn' have a very good idea what he's getting into, and it probably won't last to long before the engine goes by by.

The first thing that came to my mind is: NO, NOT ANOTHER N/A TO TURBO THREAD...

But, since you are getting it cheap, it may not be that bad. How much is cheap? How good of a friend? How good is he/she? That should answer the question. The 16G is probably a little small, but it's not that bad for a n/a, if you don't plan on 200+hp. A stock 16G is probably good for around 230 hp max, in combination w/ other mods.

I can tell that it's not that easy or cheap from what I have seen. Here is the big curve ball: a TII can be had for $2.5K-$4K. How much are you willing to throw into your car and have it still slower than a stock TII?

BoostingFC-
Are you saying for the turbo he wants from the talon or saying in general that any turboed NA will be slower than a TII?

Definitely get the manual tranny and see how your car feels after that. If you still want more speed (like we all do) than I say research some more before going out and getting the small turbo. There are other options available like porting but basically comes down to how much money you are willing to spend. Turboing the NA is the most costly of your choices. Good luck ,

the stock1st gen DSMs came with a 14b turbo...the 95-99 models came with a smaller T25...

a 16G is a good upgrade for those cars...but none came with that turbo stock...
