Add Coolent Warning Light ANNOYING Me!!!

Here is the story. My Add Coolent warning light came on for about a second and then shot off when i was coming home from a friends. Today i check the coolent, and it was almost gone. I added half coolent, and the rest water till max line as requested on the label. Anyway, I put the cap back on and went to start my car everything was running fine. About 5 seconds later the add coolent light came on and its just buzzing like a mother now. Should i just drive around and see if the warning light shuts off?

i'm assuming you don't have a leak (if you didn't recheck the level, go do that).

you might have a bad coolant level sensor, they're easy to replace (they sit on top of the radiator). i had to splice a new connector on there, so save your old sensor just to get the connector.

Well, 1st of all you need to find out why you were out of coolant. It just doesnt "go away" unless something is wrong. MIght want to replace the rad cap and thermostat (OEM Mazda ONLY!!). Anyway, the system probably needs bled. Look to the top left of the rad where the top heater hose enters. There is a small plastic screw plug going into the side there. This is the bleed screw. Take off the rad cap (not while car is hot) and unscrew the bleed plug. Start filling coolant into the system, until it starts to come out of the bleed plug hole, and then screw the plug back in. Continue filling until the system is full, and then put the rad cap back on. You should be good to go now.

The beeping may be due to air bubbles in the coolant system.

So its ok now? If not you should try unhooking the connector on the sensor up top, and grounding it out on a bolt or the negative battery post or something and see if it goes off. My wire for the coolant sensor was loose on the back of my guage cluster and i had to listen to that ******* thing for like 45mins to and from school before i had time to take the whole harness apart only to find the wire was loose in the back (i thought the wire had a bad spot in it so i disassembled the whole harness testing it with an OHMS meter). Good luck and way to go on the TII!

Yep I got it to shut up now. There was to much air in the rad. Though i also need to buy a new thermostat. Ill go back and check the sensor wires. Thanks for the input Roy.

Not a problem my man. Glad to hear it was just some air in the line. I would keep a watch on it for the next few days to make sure its not going down because as mentioned before coolant shouldnt ever run low, unless there is a leak of some sort.
