add coolant warning? Possible coolant seal crack?

Ok so I went out to start my car and it didnt want to start. I didnt think much of it because it has been awhile since it was started and i know my plugs are pretty fouled. But when it finally started there was a HUGE cloud of white smoke.

So after awhile it went away and I took it for a spin. It smoked alot while driving. I brought it back home and shut it down. I started it a few days later and I got about a block from my house when the add coolant light came on. I brought it home and checked and it was alittle low. So I filled it up and took off again. Same result.

It is just sitting in my driveway right now and I am very upset!! I am thinking that the coolant seal cracked in the housing. The same thing happend to my 91 na.

The car is a 89T2 and the engine only had 13k on it!!!
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,
Josh

Wow, that friggen sucks

Did it ever overheat on you? If not it sounds like a bad rebuild. Actually I'm not sure. If it were a seal that was fubared upon rebuilding, I would think it would have gone a lot sooner.

If it's not leaking anywhere and you have to keep adding coolant then it has to be using it.

Bubbles in the filler neck after the thermostat opens is a sure sign. You could also pull a plug after cranking w/o starting to see if you can see any water on it.

I read some threads on Block Weld and the results are varied. Last ditch effort, usually to keep an old engine running just a while longer. Sounds like the water pump will also fail not too long afterwards too.

Best of luck Josh.

Any easy way to check - smell the cloud of smoke the next time you start the car. It's easy to tell if it's oil or coolant.

And, yeah, it does sound like a water jacket is bitched, but don't jump to conclusions. Use your nose.

check under the car make sure you have no coolant leaks. if you are 100% sure there is none. pull your plugs see if they are white. if they are you are burning coolant
