Add Coolant light ?

Hi all

I was driving in traffic tonight and the Add Coolant buzzer/light kept going off when I would come to a stop. It would go out after I started driving again.

Got out at a friends house and checked the overflow tank ... it was 3/4 full. I topped it off and still got the buzzer (car was too hot to check the radiator).

Stopped for dinner ... drove home (30 miles) not much traffic .. no light. Temp is reading fine.

Car is a 90 Vert with 140K miles (all original)

Where is the sensor located? What conditions set it off?

Common problem?

Thanks,

Ed

Look on the top tank of your radiator-a single wire---you have an gas pocket in the top of the radiator---first time mine came was when the motor died with blown coolant seals.

Also check to make sure the wire isn't broken. If it loses contact, it will set the buzzer off.

The overflow isn't supposed to be full. Check when it cools off to see if it drew any of the water back in to the radiator. You may need to pull the radiator cap and see if there is any air in your system.
