mmm... besides the fact that n/a rx7's are very slow, s4 (86-89) only have 146hp. being an automatic just makes it that much worse. It could be your torque converter?

hmm even thought it is an auto it should still move when you put your foot down. could be the tranny, when the auto was going bad on my brothers vert it was so damn slow, like it would barely accelerate...also you might want to check the 5th and 6th intake ports and make sure they are working correctly. also make sure your tps is in good shape and calibrated. do a search on all these topics if you need any info on them. thats all i can think of off the top of my head

The auto tranny really kills accelleration. However, it shouldn't be that slow. First thing I'd check is to make sure you're not low on transmission fluid. Then do a full tuneup and work from there.

Probably too much, and they won't find the problem.

I had full tune up + tranny fill backwash and refill two years ago (and two transmissions ago) for $200. I'm not sure if i got ripped or not, but it was the longer lasting of the two trannies

welll... if the tranny is busted and theres no reason i wanna go to mazda to get a tranny flush and fill for no reason... waste of money i rather put the money towards a new transmission...

but hmm.... kinda need a damn mechanic around here to check out my engine but no rotary mechanics around here...

i would look into other things first, it may not be the tranny. Its much less expensive to find out that you have a clogged air filter than it is to buy a new (or used) transmission.

NA rx7s are slow by nature. No magic transmission flush is going to make it faster. If you really want added power without a turbo, you'll want to look at porting the engine, and replacing the stock exaust. I've heard people claim as much as 8-12 hp gains just from exaust upgrades.

has it always had crappy accell, or did it all of a sudden happen?
might want to test the compression too... could be a blown seal somewhere in the engine

so i had a buddy who's rx7 had horrid horrid low end (manual tranny). he couldn't figure out why. a couple months ago he told me he noticed his spark plug wires were on wrong...his leading and trailings were swapped. now i never got to check it out to make sure he wasn't mistaken, but he says that after swapping them to the correct positions his cars low down pick up is much better. check to see if your wires are on right

maybe the 6ports are stuck. I've driven an auto for awhile, and I know that it *could* be slower. I'd say that if he took the time to think something is wrong, knowing he drives an auto, there probably is.

None the less I agree the autobox does suck, especially if you start eating through them like.... butter and hot knife.

5th and 6th ports are responsibble for acceleration above 3800rpms.

The N/a is quick at best. Auto+ N/a= honda powah.

lol! ^_^
so very true!

x2delight: no really, how/when did this happen, has it allways been like that??

While you're down there checking the wires, pull out a plug and test the compression, I'm starting to have serious doubts about the engine!

i also forgot to mention that when at a stoplight and flooring it.. still does nothing.. still really slow accel..

when people mean check the 5th and 6th ports... do they mean for accel after 3800 rpms or before? such as from 0 - 3800rpms?
