AC problem

It's getting hot and the AC is acting up.
When I press the AC button the idle drops and it clicks out of the dashboard but engine stalls. No cold air coming if I keep the rpms up.
The engine stall is annoying because at every stop it dies.
Any idea what could be wrong?
Thanks much

Probably dirty BAC Valve, make sure your TPS and idle and timing are good first.

Your going to have to overcome your idle problems...Most likely the TPS or BAC as stated above.

Once you get your idle going, you need to run a pressure test on the system. This requires a pressure gauge and adapters for your (I am guessing) R12 system.

Also, the grounds from engine to body & from battery to engine must be perfect (shinny metal contact)

This is most likely a problem with the BAC valve, which increases the idle speed when the A/C's on. Read this article on how how to test and repair it.

Your A/C probably needs a recharge. Once you have the idle sorted (or get someone to hold the gas pedal) check the sight glass on top of the drier in the engine bay with the system running. It's visable through a hole in the plastic panel in front of the radiator. Run it for a few minutes first, then see if there are any bubbles visable in the sight glass. If there are (and there probably will be) you need a recharge.

Thanks guys.
It's idling fine unless I turn the AC on, maybe idling a bit low though. I will check timing first.
Had a very hard time to pass smog recently also with 116 and 89 HC with new cheapy cat.
