AC/Heater Blower not working?

Now that it is starting to cool off I figure it's about time to figure out why I don't get any air flow from my vents. When I turn it on there is absolutely nothing, doesn't make any noises, doesn't blow any air out, nothing. I am not driving it all that much and haven't really dealt with the car or really checked into it because I am away at college. Just wondering if there was a defect for this part or anything I wouldn't have found when I searched.

Also the car is a 1990 GTU.

Thanks in advance.

Check all the fuses located just above your left foot (drivers side dash). Check them with a METER, I've seen many fuses that looked fine, but were open when checked with a DMM.

The blower motor is fed by one of the two circuit breakers at the top of the fuse box. If the botton has popped out, push it back in to reset it.

is the blower motor working if you put it all the way over to the HIGH setting and leave it?

Just double checked my breakers. Unless I'm missing something, they're fine.

Can they go bad?

I'm having this exact problem... only works on high setting.

Mine just doesn't work at all.

However, it has its plusses. Means I don't have to drive when me and my girl go somewhere. Yay for not paying $3/gallon.

I had two problems in my '87. The first was no air and replacing the blower motor resolved that. Second was the logicon failing, which happens often. So in order to get it to work, on high only, I had to punch it twice, slide the fan speed slider back and forth twice (always ending on high) and it would work.

Ok, my system does nothing when I press any of the buttons/slider on the logicon. I'm thinking it's a bad logicon or bad air mix motor (breaker isn't tripped). Hopefully this might help me or others. From searching for A/C problems I'm getting:

Tripped Breaker
Fix
- Reset
- Replace (?)

Bad Logicon
Logicon will not control the cycle of the air conditioner, however it does control the air mix motor which controls the heat/cool ratio.

Next time it does it, check to see if the air mix motor is moving when you flip the temp setting on the logicon up or down. You should be able to hear a electrical motor moving in the dash by simply moving that temp setting.

If there is no movement, then it could be a bad Logicon. If there is movement it won't be.

Also remember that the air conditioning needs the accessory circuit form the ignition switch to be on, to activate the compressor. If you have intermittent radio power issues it could be just related to the key/ignition switch.

Either way, you'll need to fix the air conditioning if it has bubbles in the system. I would recommend and air conditioning shop, way before ever taking it to a Mazda dealer.

--

Please define hot air. Hot as coming from the heater or just hot air as in its a hot day in Texas, 105degrees. With the engine off, and the key on, when you touch those buttons on the LOGICON, do you hear the doors on the system opening and closing? Touch a button and you should hear a whirr and then the sound of a little door closing. Air conditionin relay? There's one mounted on the blower motor and one hanging in front of the radiator on the drivers side of centerline. Does the clutch on the compressor pull in when the air cond button is pushed while the blower selector is pushed to the right? If not take that single bullet connector on the air compressor and touch it by hook or crook to the positive post of the battery. Did the compressor clutch pull in? If it did then the compressor is ok. There is a *receiver drier* located next to the overflow tank. Disconnect the two wire connector going to it and put a meter on the two contacts on the receiver drier. Do you read continuity? Like less than an ohm? If you do not you probably have not enough freon in the system to make the circuit to the compressor.

Fix
- Resolder

A/C Compressor not working
Causes:
- Low/high pressure
- Bum fuse

Fix:
- Recharge/reduce charge
- replace fuse

Air Mix Motor
We have found more than a few of these bad. The symptoms are almost impossible to separate from a bad Logicon. Additionally - it is very possible to have the Air Mix Motor, AND the Logicon, both bad. The factory manual gives a good method of testing these using a 12V supply and a volt/ohm meter. The motor controls the heater valve and the directing of the air under the dash. It is located on the left side of the heater unit, under the dash, and replacement is not that complicated.

Blowing Hot Air

Fix:
- Fix/Replace the AC clutch
