ABS non ABS proportioning Valve differences??
I just did the ABS removal......
ONE PROBLEM.... the Proportioning valve stripped out on my car.... I tried to buy one on the forum... but i got a pulley in the mail from the dude.... dont know wassup with that....
ANYWAY.... went tothe junkyard and got a prop vavle from a NON ABS car until i can get the right part....
the LOOK the same... HOWEVER.. on the NON ABS cars... the drivers side front brake comes out of the mastercylinder and goes to the caliber.... the passenger side come out of the prop valve then to the caliper....
SOOOO, something must be different here....
I took the prop valve apart... the plunger and spring in the prop valve are different from the ABS to the NON-ABS cars... the spring is longer on one and the plungers are just a few thousandths different in length and diameter (one plunger is red, the other is green) BUT the internals of the vavle body are the same.....
SOOOO i took the guts out of the ABS Prop valve and put them in the NON-ABS valve and used the end cap from the ABS valve on it as well....
I figured that the differencecs in the plunger and spring are to make up for BOTH front brakes comming out of the prop valve on the ABS cars... Makes sense.. why make two different valve bodies when you can just change the plunger and spring.. sames manufacturing costs.
If i can't get the right valve, I guess i'll see if the swap worked!!!!!
BUT, anybody out there know if my theory is right or not before i go slamming into a tree if I can't get the correct ABS prop vavle by the time the car is on the raod???
