About to have an RX-7 BBQ
I'm getting extremely frustrated trying to put my transmission back into my car, and I cant get the transmission to slide into the engine. It seems like the tranny is sitting too low in the back, but the damn shifter area on the tranny is hitting the body right before the shifter hole. What should I do?
id loosen the motor mounts, then place a jack at the front of the engine with a block of wood between it and the motor, then jack the front of the motor up so that it lowers the back of the engine. then put a little white lithium grease on the input shaft, but make sure to use it sparingly. seems to work for me oh yeah and if you have to remove the three ten millimeter bolts from around the shifter and pull the shifter out. voila extra 6 inches if you havent done that already.
yeah, just like what Ridah said
grease the splines of the tranny a little bit, use a floor jack and jack up a bottle jack to lift the engine by the Main Pulley... basically it'll tilts about 7-10 degrees
if u have 3 people, then have a friend push from the back, u move it forward, and a third guy at the transmission-floor jack
use the long starter bolt to slip it thru the passanger side bell housing hole as a guide so the transmission won't rotate

I got it, I just had to loosen the motor mounts for some slack to give the tranny enough room. It went in like butter. Thanks for the replies though! I had the shifter out, but the portion of the transmission that the shifter sits in was hitting the body and preventing the transmission from becoming level.
I'm with the original post. Have a b-bque, I live in California, just send ticket there. On disability, so I got lots of free time to come and help. If not, just make sure that you haven't tightened the engine to specs. It will never work.
