About to buy a $900 FC..

Its an 86 with a 91 motor, in need of some cleaning up and TLC, has a few problems but nothing major.

Idle likes to be high and surges a bit when its warmed up all the way, but doesn't stall. Big whoop, clean or replace idle control.

Brakes really saggy and shitty... I think they need a good bleed. Calipers are new but the BMC isn't... and the booster supposedly doesn't work too great either, not a big deal.

CLANKS ON SHIFT. I'm HOPING its a ujoint.... could there be a bushing that went out? This is a NA car, but a kid previous owner might have beat on it when shifting... its not the rear end I hope.

Anyway, my plans include a thorough cleaning, fixing those loose ends, heading off rust around the sunroof (which could use a good fixing as well) and the tops of the doors new tires and brake pads and taking me to work and autocrosses.

Is there anything I should be on the look out for besides that a kid probably beat on the poor thing?

Bad oolant seals, flooding, etc, has the engine been carbon locked?

Clunking probably from front differential mount.

Idle is probably vauum leaks and a misadjusted tps.

Check compression.

If he knows enough to put an engine in, and hes selling it for $900, i would see what is seriously wrong with it first, read icemarks faq on buying an fc.

He originally wanted a grand, and it was his son's car for a while but his son left it with him. I doubt he did the engine swap.

You SURE its a front diff mount and nothing else? Is that just a bushing or something else?

RE: the swap. Sure, in several years, after college, when I could afford to get a freaking corvette. then its a why bother proposition?
