None. Ever. 4 Runs. I was 13 seconds off a twin turbo stealth, and about 6 seconds off a second gen. And I have 205's on my NA's, so pfft! Anyway. My car barely fit in the starting gate! And holy ****, they had a tight slalom at the end of the course, and there was no way in hell I could take it at speed, too close together for such a long car. Other than that it did pretty well, except it pushed waay too much until we had 40psi up front and 55 in the rear

Us phone dialer `86's to which I was makeing the compairson have 195's stock.... I'd hoped to find a fresh 1986 M/T review of the 2nd gen to put side by side with that of the SS, but couldn't find one.

I'll be running 225's minimum when I get rid of the stock rims. (thinking about keeping the 14's for auto-x only tires though)

I want to buy a 9C1 Caprice one day so I don't have to pay the price premium for an SS.

Slalom and skidpad numbers are not tell-all handling specs.

I got one. It runs in the upper 14's with a K&N and a catback. I think the impala has an NA or T2 off the line with all the torque and a posi (for the na guys) that and the 255's all around help

You'd probably be able to pull on the SS around 40-45mph...it's a really crappy shift point for that car. To high of rpms to drop down a gear but really too low of an rpm in the current.

once again we are comparing detroit's finest to a sports car. no one seems to have any of the right numbers so why dont we just leave it at this...its another chevy w/ too much horsepower and no suspension, just like every other car they make. minus the vette. id love to see an impalla out on an autox course..."wow look at all the tire smoke as it does 360s around turns" or "hey those brakes dont seem to work well after a few laps" or "o crap that 160hp rx7 is running circles around me"

i'm gonna have to say that they are a very respectable car for what they are. I raced a caprice which is the four door, even heavier with exhaust and some sort of a chip in my '93 MX-6 LS (v6) and it pulled on me the whole way, eventually pulling about two cars in my town's "quarter mile." Definitley a shocker to see such a tank actually getting up to speed like it does. Definitley not a road course car in any way..but i do'nt think that road racing was at all what they had in mind in designing it...it would be a real nice road trip car though, and a pretty decent wolf in sheep's clothing.

They don't handle as bad as you guys like to believe.
Have you seen some of the things that cops do in those cars? They hold thier own in High speed pursuits... I have seen them keep up with cars that they just should be keeping up with. Granted the Police are trained drivers, and their Caprices are slightly modified. There are companies that make suspension components that greatly improve this chassis performance. I just don't see the point in debating this? Again, we are comparing a car that was designed for comfort, to a car that was designed for sport. Why?? So are your egos satisfied because your 2 door sports coupe can out perform a 4 door luxury car?

cop cars are NOT fast, and anyone who thinks they are seriously needs to think about the situation: 4800+LB (radios and crap make the car that heavy, not to mension 2 cops inside) + 280HP != fast.
And cops generally run on goodyears or walmart's finest tires, nothing that could be called anywhere near sticky. On a highway they probably don't have much trouble taking down most stuff, but around town... they're a joke.

The impala SS will NOT keep up to a stock rx-7 in the twisties, and no matter how much suspension was thrown at it it probably still wouldn't. But, for a tank, it's an incredible machine. Don't expect it to handle like a 2500lb 2 seater and you'd have a great time with it.
Stock 1/4 is 14.5 ... that's about what a good stock TII would run. And remember, they've got LS1s, which means more HP is NOT a problem. They're the ultimate american sedan, and that's not really a bad thing. Probably comparable to a 740i, allthough not as refined.

Until you've autocross one, shut the hell up. They don't do 360's, nor do the brakes not work after a few lap. Don't believe me? Look at page 1.

Hey, there's some guy who runs a Lincoln town car with factory air ride springs at the local auto-x track and from what I've heard (haven't seen him run as I tend to be sleeping at 7:30 saturday mornings) he does pretty damn well with that thing. Auto-x is about driver skill more than the cars capability. We have had celica GTS's do endo's off the track and land belly up in the dirt here. Short courses are intentionally short and twisty because even if you have a car on rails, you'll still screw the pooch if you try to go too fast.

I agree about the apples to oranges, and regret fueling this fire.

---> "I have big tubby car that handles like wet soap... be nice to me" j/k

I'd still rather have a skyline R32 GT-R... they do 12.x nearly stock

and yeah, I know sb2s are a different machine, but if it's a chevy v8, you can still make Big Power relatively easily and reliably
