'91 Vert whl center caps: fall off?
Buying a '91 vert but has only 2 center caps. Owner says he pulled the other 2 off because they "fall off"
Anybody have experience with these things falling off? Suggestions on how to keep them on after installing them would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Mine have never fell off so Ive never really looked at how they are held on. Im sure if you look at how they are attached you could figure something out. Whatever you do avoid buying new ones though. They are $$$ from the dealer.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
they only fall off if they have not been locked down all the way or the driver hits something such as a high curb or other scrapable object

yup, those suckers are locked on with a special tool which is used also for removing them. the tool is like a hex wrench and is used to tighten or loosen the lock caps from the bbs wheels. they should not fall off the car unless they are not put back on securely...you can try putting one on and tighten it with the bbs tool, then try tp pry it off with your hands...its tight solid!

when I had my new tires installed I left the wrench and caps for the tire dealer. about two days later one fell off in a busy intersection while I was making a right turn. It was toast by the time I realized what had happened. It was like $100 from the dealer, but thetire place ordered one and put in on for me in a couple of days. I'm due for a rotation and I'm taking the off myself this time, so the tire place won't mess up again. But they did come thru for me with a new one.
If those suckers aren't rotated all the way tight they are trouble.

Center caps fall off on rogh roads,
AND
they do get stolen, on occasion.
If you silicone seal them they will never fall off, and they are harder to steal.
I leave them off my Vert for daily driving, and put them on for car shows and other times when I want to look good.

No problems with the "BBS" convertible, TII caps, or 929 caps falling off.
A quick test - if you can twist the BBS ones off with your hand fairly easy then they may fall off
