This is one of my final posts to document the repair of the Vert's logicon. Specifically, the intent of this post is to catalog the removal/install of the instrument panel garnish which is necessary to access the logicon pigtail connector.
This is not a step-by step process however I hope these photos will lend a hand to all who wish to attempt to remove and install the garnish.
Of important things to note, the garnish is made of metal so don't be bashful when attempting to pop the clips out from the rear of the garnish. Additionally, remove the plastic center cover from the garnish to reveal the retaining bolt. A low-profile 8mm socket wrench or a 90* offset phillips screw driver will remove the bolt. Furthermore, the garnish was removed and installed without removing the pillar trim pieces. It can be done, but with CAUTION! A neighbor helped flex the garnish into place without scratching/damaging the pillar trim pieces or garnish.
Garnish prepared for installation.
Underside of garnish. Note the 6 clips at the rear of the panel. These will clip into the dash. They are difficult to pop off when removing.
Close-up of garnish center section.
Right side of garnish, the plastic peg is reinforced with a 2-part plastic welder (Permatex Plastic Welder).
Close-up of the reinforced peg with metal clip. I had to grind down the excess compound because the hole is narrow.
