IL 91 FC torque problem?

I Just bought a new spectre cone air filter and placed it in my FC last night. I completely removed the stock airfilter box and all. Everything seems to be fine. I also removed the Air pump as well that mazda placed in the cars for emissions. I have one problem.

Before all of this was done to the car. I would drive the car and at about 5500 RPMS i would feel an extra "kick" in the acceleration. I don't feel that extra type of power boost. Its a 91 FC N/A. If anyone has any solutions or explanations to the problem please let me know.

Thanks

By removing the airpump you removed the functionality of these valves...they are opened by air pressure which was generated by the airpump and controlled by 2 vacuum solenoids.

So is this in turn bad? Did my car benefit from this or actually take a loss from this?

You should do more research before removing parts of the emissions equipement....Mazda tied a bunch of the power stuff into the emissions equipment.

See if your air filter has an air tube that goes from the filter to the air pump.

It had a rubber tube that connected into the stock air box but not one that would connect to the new spectre filter

The tube from the air pump just sucks in air. If and when you put the pump back on you can leave the cone filter and run the hose back to where it went, but you run the danger of sucking up bugs, rocks, and etc. So, your best be may be to take the hose off and replace it with a filter that will fit onto the neck where the hose was coming from.

Yes, re-installing the air pump will solve this issue.
