90 Vert Sound options

I just got a 90 Vert, and I have been thinking about the sound system. SO far i have found the door speakers, head rest speakers, and the rear lower speakers. I think there should also be speakers in the lower dash as well. Can someone confirm the sizes of the speakers? I looked at Crutchfields and they only show dash and door speakers.

I am also wondering how to hook up the head rest speakers to an after market head unit and maybe have an external volume control (kind of like the stock one) in case i find those speakers to be very annoying. I have a newer deck to install but I am thinking of getting one with more channels and maybe add a center channel in the lower din part or find a din sized retractable cup holder for it.

So basically I am looking for some insight from the other Vert owners out there. Has anyone cut out the lower part behind the front seats and made permanent sub boxes? Otherwise what are you guys using for Bass? A sub in the trunk?

Thanks for you help Matt

There are no dash speakers on the 89-91 verts. As far as hooking up the head rest spks, you only have to take out the seats and find the plug on the bottom of the seat that connects it to the wiring from the car ( a 4 pin molex plug) and cut it, thereby allowing you to hook it up to any source you want to (deck, amp etc) provided that they are not already blown...they're a bitch to replace. Also, if you are hooking them up to a deck, you will want to "cap" them off with about a 50mfd cap to insure that if they were'nt already blown that you don't blow them from too much bass making it thru to them. If amplifying them, make sure to use an electronic x-over set at about 300hz and up or you'll have trouble with these. As far as bass, anything you put in the trunk will be hard to hear and won't perform very well without lots of power and plenty of rattles necesitating the use of lots of heavy dynamat (verts are already heavy enough).A much better location is under the boot. Cut the bracing out, move the spare to the trunk behind the license plate and build some type of enclosure (fiberglass is ussually the best). Theres room for a couple of 10's there. Done many times before. Good luck. T

ya thats kinda what i was thinking about, moving the spare into the trunk and doing something else with that space. Has anyone used the component style system to power the lower rear speaker and the head rest speaker?

In regards to the rear speaker, how many are using a 4x6 speaker or the 4x6 plate and a 4 inch speaker? Can somebody also confirm the size of the door speaker. Thanks Matt

NY Sound system in 91 vert

I have a 1991 vert with rockfort fosgates components in the door's (installed crossover box in the little compartment in the door panel thats of no use anyway!) and I have an Infinity Bass link in the spare tire well I moved the spare to the back of the compartment and secured it with a bungee cord... sounds great. the basslink is self powered @250 watts and sound great when the top is down too ( also has a remote mount bass volume controller so you can sdjust the bass if the top is up or down ( I put that by the swithes for the surround sound. I didn't hook up the headrest speakers). I'm a car audio buff and this system sound just as good as the one I put in the Q45 I have....just make sure you have a nice headunit....
