The car had been having some issues but what normally start until today. The car has power, the lights and accessories work. The battery and alternator were recently checked and in good condition. I cleaned up the grounds before and things were fine until yesterday. The car did the same thing but I was bald to fix it by unplugging and replugging the fuses. I noticed that the main fuse was a 60a even though it's supposed to be a 100a. When unplug and replug my fuses I get power to everything until I turn the key to start at which point everything dies. I think it must be something with the starter connections but I dont know where.

 

I'm not sure how you can replace the 100A main fuse with a 60A fuse. The 100A main fuse has male connectors that are held in the fuse block with screws. The other fuses (i.e., 30A and 60A) have female connectors and just slide into the main fuse block. For starters, I would recommend installing the correct 100A main fuse.

 

Thanks I ordered the correct fuses and they should be here today so I'm gonna give it a shot. I have no idea how the old owner managed to do it but I plan to correct it and hopefully get my car working again.

 

The car still wont start after replacing the fuses. I think it may be the starter solenoid because I just hear a single click when I try to start it.

 

While you're down checking the starter, make sure it has a good clean connection to ground. Easiest to check with a multimeter for continuity. Sometimes they can get dirty and the path to ground doesn't work as well.

 

I previously cleaned up the grounds that go to it and made sure they were clean. I'm hoping that tomorrow I can change the starter and solenoid and that my issue is located there and not in the wiring somewhere but I think that since I'm hearing a single click that it's getting power but just not activating as it should.

 

Clean off your battery terminal and the grounds.

I cleaned up the grounds and replaced the starter and still nothing. I'm now having it towed to the closest Firestone and hopefully they'll be able to resolve the problem plus it'll get the car out of the parking lot at work so there's that

 

Some additional suggestions:
1. Check the ignition switch harness.
2. Check the clutch pedal starter interlock switch.
3. Check the security system starter cutout relay.

 

Get down there and with a screwdriver tap the battery positive and the solenoid and it should crank, this will eliminate engine or electronic issues, then you can figure out the easy part why you're not getting power down there.
