'90 Auto White Convertible Probs

Just got the Car a week ago ... Payed 5500 for it ...
Body and paint is immaculant .... underbody looks good...has underbody coating. After buying it I got to play with things better and I found some things here and there that need fixed.

#1 After cold starting and letting it settle down after 3500 rpms I take off and after 1st gear it will throw out grey 'ish smoke

#2 Dash clock does not keep time .. it always stays @ 1:00 ... the only good thing it does it tell me how long I am in the car

#3 Radio Backlight does not light up .. and also when I hit the dial under the volume in (brainfart of what its called) it will turn on the door open light and make the clock turn off till I hit the button again and the door open light turns off and clock back on.
On a weekend I took all the panles off in the trunk and carefully followed the wires from teh changer and amp and I found a few inline fuses that were blown and I replace those.

#4 Power antenna does not work due to the wires being cut ... there are 2 black wires that go up to the antenna if I reach up in the body panling to the top of the antenna motor and also 3 wires coming from the antenna white ... yellow and brown I believe. I do not know what wires go to what. For I got no power to the antenna nor get any FM reception

#5 Slow Take off and play in the RPM's till it switches gears .... only seems sluggish in 1st gear also in 3rd there is a hesitation going to 4th around 3500-3800 rpms. Normal? for this to happin ?

#6 Map/dome light does not work. I replaced the bulb that didnt look blowna nd when I try to turn it on it turns off the clock .... I think there HAS to be a ground falt somewhere ....... HELP!!
#7 Raddle around the Caddy converter ... I can get it tack welded to fix the heat sheild which I think should fix the prob....

All in all I am pleased with the car ..... I just want to get the little thigns fixed ....... I am not very savvy in Rx7's as of now ... reading the forum postsand learning some really great things I can do to 'tweak' things here andthere. Mods will come later when I save some Green
Any and ALL Posts will be SOO greatly apreciated ... (sp?) haha I'm soo tired :p

yup sounds like a grounding problem with your electrical...doors, clocks, radio all freak out together when power is fed to them to turn them on and such.

The thing is I dunno where to look for the grounding fault ... I've tried following everything to its source and today I took out the center dash paneling to check for the problem but didnt see anything ... could it be in the engine ........ I'll look some more tomorrow.

I have my thoughts its has something to do with the changer in the trunk and the wire that was ran for subs they were not electrical taped and were touching the body when I found it as to a few other wires behind the trunk panleing ..... I had to replace the antenna fuse and the audio fuse and 2 inline fuses ..... car alarm and one in the trunk that went tthe chnager

You have a blown room fuse in the drivers kick panel fuse box.

That will solve at least 50% of your problems.

Do a search for the 3800 rpm hesitation.

Some smoke on start up is normal and sometimes is confused with steam from the cat. But if it does this in warmer weather, you may want to check compression

The rx antenna is negative activated, your aftermarket radio antenna wire is positively activated. It sounds like the relay to make this work wasn't installed when the previous owner upgraded the stereo.

I have a white 90 auto 'vert too. I hate first gear with a passion. I think I could get out and run faster to 20 mph. Don't have any problems with the accelleration after that though.

And you might want to look into freeing up the 6 ports, too.

Also run some Marvel Mystery Oil. I just added that yesterday to the fuel and my engine is notably quieter.

Except for the auto I think it is the best vert around. Damn auto tranny in a sports car.

I'm in the midst of a move, but I'll try to dig out the wiring diagrams for the antenna. You can verify ground and 12v with a voltmeter. the third probably is the switch wire.

from waht you say I imagine you'll have to rewire the entire aftermarket stereo, sounds like a very poor job was done during installation.

I found out the problem!! Duhh .... I thoght I changed all the fuses in the car but I missed one ... guess what it was?? the Room Fuse for the lights in the car and the memory for the clock and radio. It said 7.5 and I thought it was 75 .... it looked like it was a Main fuse for the fuse box in the car. I feel stupid .. But other than that ...

I need to get the antenna working ... I have it up but it dont go up and down ....
But cleaning the ports ... that as in the carbon cleaner thing I read all over the forums bout spraying it through the air induction vaccuum hoses to get to the front and back rotor ?

MY car runs prettty smoothly other than a raddle in the caddy verter that I need to tack wled the heat sheild.

I just wanna find some more things on the forum that I can make my car run and look really good ..
Thanks for your help..
