9.5lb or 11lb flywheel for the GTUs?

Yo,

I'm about to get a lightweight aluminum flywheel for the GTUs. Now, which weight? 11lbs or 9.5lbs?

The car has powersteering and AC.

Will I be able to hold a good idle with the 9.5lb?

If you vote, please post on why you voted and what experience you've had...or your friends have had.

Thanks!

This isn't even a choice! 9.5# all the ******* way. ANYONE who complains about the 9.5# being unstreetable is eiher A) a shitty driver or B) has never driven one.

P.S. Next goes that air conditioning!

The TII SR Indigo alum flywheel is available in 11# or 9.5# versions (counterweight not in weight).

I did the 11# and have regretted it since, go for 9.5#.

On stock TII engine it idled fine @ 300rpms- got through bad Sears Point traffic no problem that way before I was able to adjust the idle back up (and it would flood if stalled...).

W/ Pineapple stage 2 streetport, 720cc primaries, 3mm seals, low comp rotors, hogged primary intake runners and no accessories it still idles strongly @ 700rpm (but w/ a streetport cadence).

Although the heavy duty TII ACT pressure plate does add weight back into the flywheel...Not sure if your set-up will be the same deal.

Also not sure if your accessories will help or hurt idle- my car actually idles a tad smoother when the electric fan kicks on and the alt. is loading the engine.

9.5# because Rarest is no wussy!

Yo,

Cool guys, I will probably drive to SR Motorsports tomorrow and pick up the 9.5lb flywheel with the ACT heavy duty pressure plate/street-strip package.

Blue TII - You're in California? Why did I think you were back East?

You are not going to notice the difference Kevin. 9 lb. drives fine but I hope you are not going to get a copper clutch disk which holds upto 400 HP for your 170HP motor and wear your flywheel out in 3 mon. Idle will not be effected. S5 stock wheel is pretty light already and with the whimppy stock motor you won't feel much if any gain, but shifting would be nicer.

the act copper discs wear out first, we've seen 2. the iron cross wears faster than a stock disc

Hey Kevin

I used the Racing Beat aluminum flywheel on my GTUs and currently have one on my Turbo II. They tend to be a bit pricey compared to the SR Motorsports ones but both will do the job. It will be by far the best mod for your N/A, you will notice dramatic increases in acceleration. You wont have the 'grunt' outta the hole with a lighter flywheel but it sounds to me like road racing is your game, so no worries there.

Yo,

Well fellas, SR Motorsports have my credit card number and the 9.5lb flywheel is on it's way to Dana's work!

If it sucks, I'm gonna blame all of you!! *snicker*

I'm looking forward to it, my car should rev like a sumbitch now. Throw in a CAI and a S-AFC II and I be straight pimpin'.

Thanks again Dana!
