89 TII hits a wall at 120mph

No, I didn't wreck it! But last night i was getting on it and noticed that at around 120mph it seemed like it didn't want to go any faster even at 100% percent throttle. Now this isn't right, i remember getting it up to 160 like two months ago! Then, randomly i go into limp mode, and after shutting down and restarting it runs fine but still hitting the aformentioned wall. Afterwards I noticed that at idle she is knocking horribly so i shut it down for a bit and get it running again then the power starts draining until eventually all the lights are off and i cant roll the windows up (it had started to rain a bit). Luckily I got her home......
I attribute the power drain to the alternator going bad on me (never trust an auto zone alt. test) But could this wall I hit be related?

yes very much so, fc's have horrrible electrical systems and and if they dont get their full 12 volts or a little more, they are not happy at all, so most likely that is your problem

nah, after i replace the alternator I'm going to re-ground it all though. It's just such a pain in the *** to get to the ECU ground! I've been procrastinating..... Thanks for the re-assurance guys...

if your alternator went out and you were losing voltage horribly i'm surprised your motor is still in one piece after a hard 5th gear 100+ MPH pull. check and fix the charging system before trying that again.

remember, your fuel pump and spark are the heart of the engines tune, when voltage drops then your fuel pump does not supply full pressure and spark is weak.

does the TII actually go 160mph or is your speedometer out?
just a newb question
he beat me to it about the fuel and spark
but also i'd check your battery out....a bad cell or dry battery can make your car do some funky things

Just to let ya know (as i work for autozone now lol) the test inside the store will only tell you the altenator works. Take the car too them and have them test the altenator on the car, it's done through the portable battery tester they have. If they don't know how ask them to test your battery and when thier out there tell them to his "Test charging system"

power started dropping badly AFTER that hard burn, so I'm hoping everything is alright, I'll find out when i get a new alternator, hopefully next week.
