I've heard both answers:

A) Sure, bolts right on!

and

B) No, you have to change/weld/fabricate from bailing wire the supports.

Has anyone done this? I'm planning this for my 86....

Well, your big problem is that you have to swap both bumper skins. That makes it far more of a problem than just the mouldings.

S4 mouldings are glued on for the most part (up near the reflectors they're popped in with clips)

Looks like there's a few pop clips on the side mouldings on an S5. I'm sure you can probably cut those off and use the double sided tape they use for body parts to attach them to an S4.

i just recently did this to my car, i put on the front and rear bumper skins and the side mouldings from the 89+ to my 88. the front and rear pieces that have the side light/markers in them snap in. the other pieces have the little clips on them that the s4 doesnt have since they are just glued on. so i just knocked them all off and doublesided taped them on. worked like a charm and rather easy and looks great.
