I'm thinking about possibly parting out my '89 GTUs. It's got a straight body and the engine runs but doesnt start up all the time (might just be due to electrical/battery problems). Once running it sounds great.

What do you guys think are good prices to list diff. parts for an '89 GTUs? i.e. engine, back end, front end, etc. Thx

Before you part it out lets try to diagnose the problem. What is it doing exactly? It may be an easy fix. And you would get more, selling the whole thing running.

 

You'll sell it for more whole than parted.

 

lol ok maybe i wont part it out. I think the battery isnt getting enough juice. The reason I think this is because the terminals aren't looking too good and the guy who had it before me tried to ground the battery and I think he did it wrong. When I jump it, it will usually start but as of right now I have to push start it (popping the clutch). Also the only real connection between the battery and the terminals is a little peice of copper he shoved in there. I just hope its not flooding and needs a rebuild. I just did a block weld and there isnt white smoke anymore and its got a lot of power so i dont think its the apex or side seals.

 

Block weld is bad, if it ever needs a rebuild (which it will eventually) the block weld will just make it all the more difficult.

 

Replace your battery and cables and have your alternator tested. Est. price ~70 dollars at walmart.

Parting a GTUs is like a catholic asking the Virgin Mary to give him a blow job.

 

haha yeah i know its just that **** has been hecktic for me lately and im getting stressed and want to cut my losses and get rid of the car. But I'm not sure if I'm going to. I guess I've just been discourged lately. thanks for the help i wont part it out. im sure all of this is partly due to the cold weather

Seriously, you could trade that for a running RX-7 GTU, GXL, SE, or Convertible. Send an e-mail to the SOCAL guys and I'm sure you'd find someone who'd do that.

Sounds like you bought JunpoweR's car. does it have hsks mufflers, dent on hood, half cut air box, strut tower bar, k&n sticker on the snorkel? Thats what i remember it had last, and it was white, and had roughly that many miles. He had a black GTUs once too, he sold it with a bent frame without telling the person he sold it to.

yeah if you don't want it then sell the whole car but don't part it out thats like murder. But honestly you should fix it up man many people one this forum would kill for that car

 

I know this has nothing to do with this thread but wtf is the difference between GTUs and GTU? I mean what kind do I have? It's the 89 N/A sports version. So can someone tell me wtf that is? I know it is a s5 that's all with LSD.

i want a black GTUs . . . some here in AZ sold one with a bad motor for $4000 i think or at leats thats what it was for on autotrader and it dissapeared if i remeber correctly the driver's front fender was painted flat black thus suggesting it needed alot of work . . crazy stuff my GXL is pretty cool for now though i'm trying to clean it up all purdy with turbo2 parts wee
